'Blue Ondine' is a side project, a little meandering path which runs alongside my main practice. I created Blue Ondine when a small area of my artwork began to stubbornly wander off in its own distinct direction. Despite various attempts to pull it back, it seemed determined to continue on its path and so I decided it was time to give it its own voice. Blue Ondine is a little more whimsical and playful than my main practice, and whilst it retains elements of some of my regular work, I feel the audience for each may differ slightly and I did not want the one to distract from the other. So Blue Ondine, named for the blue of distance and the elemental water being which also happens to be one of my favourite films, was created. Blue Ondine is about myth, folklore, nature, the ocean, the weather, the stars, and the beauty and the dreaming which I find in the small moments when I stop and breathe, when I gaze into the distance or examine the minutiae. For the most part, I turn this work in to wearable art: Totems and spirit guides, symbols of love and luck, charms to be carried with you. Also tiny artworks on wood which sometimes become prints or cards or miniature paintings in little boxes. Much of this is available to purchase from my shop.
